BIG BEAR MUCH TOO EASY
By Ric Jones
Well, it didn’t rain this year! In fact the weather was perfect for wheeling.
Seven vehicles met at the Big Bear Discovery Center for a day of easy wheeling.
Along for the fun was Dennis and Casey Sullivan, Jay and Laurie Anderson, Jim Haley, Dennis Neil, Jay Jimenez and Marge, Ray and Leanne Moore, my guest Gene Newton, and I.
This was a special run for my guest Gene. He and my uncle first took me “Jeeping” when I was around 10, now here I am taking him “Jeeping” 60 years later when he”s 90!
We left the Center about 9:30 and made our way west on HWY 38 to 2N09 then headed north to 2N71. 2N71 is a nice little trail with great views of the lake, for those not driving anyways. We then made a left on 3N12 to 3N14 which we would take the rest of the way.
About 10:30 we took a break and a potty stop at Big Pine Campground. Since the rest of the trail was just more of the same and Casey wanted to go to a vintage travel trailer outing in Big Bear, they decided to head back to Big Bear. Jim Haley was staying in Big Bear so he followed them back.
The five of us continued on 3N14 and stopped for lunch at an area which afforded us a great view of the Victorville area (such as it is) below. After a leisurely lunch we headed down JF3255 ending up in Hesperia around 12:30. A very short day!
In Hesperia some stopped at Wendy’s for ice cream while the rest of us headed home. Jay Jimenez was camping at the Heart Bar campground so he had a fun drive to Hwy 18 and back up to Big Bear.
I would like to thank all of those who attended the run. It was for a very pleasant day of fun in the sun, especially since it rained some back at home.
